For the first, the item on the left, a mold was made using a wooden darning egg to impart the form.  For the other, a cordial glass with a parabolic shape was used as a mold.  Then, successive layers of colored resin were poured into the mold.

The mold for this was made from a dodecahedron (twelve-sided) calendar pressed into a mass of silicone mixed with flour and allowed to harden.  (The calendar is from 1969, but it's still good occasionally, I think every 28 years.  So I'm glad I didn't throw it away.)

Alphabet Soup (Clear Broth), Jan. 2024.  2.9 x 4.9 x 0.6 cm..  (id#1613)

This was made in a small plastic tray serving as a mold (first coated with silicone to facilitate release of the finished item).  After an initallayer of clear resin was poured in an allowed to harden, another layer was added in which the plastic letter beads were positioned once the resin got a bit stiff or tacky, like very thick honey.  This was so that the beads could be made to rest at various angles, instead of all settling flat, to suggest cardboard boxes thrown into the water.

S.O.S. - Same Old Shit, Mar. 2024.  3.2 x 5.2 x 0.9 cm..  (id#1615)

This piece and the next few are all on a scatological theme.  (A small plastic tray was used as a mold.)  You all know how this continues - "different day", or "only the flies are different".  

La Misma Mierda, Feb. 2024.  2.9 x 4.9 x 0.7 cm..  (id#1614)

Same as above, in the Spanish version.  They say, "Sólo las moscas son diferentes".  The mixture of resin, sand, and colorant was prepared and poured into the mold.  When it was a bit stiff, I added the letter beads.  I've noticed that different cultures have very rich idioms of vulgarity.  In a story by T. Coraghessan Boyle set in South America, he mentions a scarcely surpassable curse, essentially "I shit in the milk of your mother!".  The Spanish for this became gradually abbreviated until one only had to say "Leche!" and the whole curse was understood.

Back On Your Heads, Mar. 2024.  3.2 x 5.2 x 1.0 cm..  (id#1616)

This is the punch line of a joke.  Someone dies and goes to Hell, where a devil shows him around a bit and tells him he has a choice about where to spend eternity.  In the first room, people are walking around on hot coals and screaming horribly.  In the next room, people are getting their guts ripped out by wild beasts.  In the third room, people are all drinking tea from teacups - only thing is, they are standing in shit up to their armpits.  The guy decides, "Well, it's not great, but this is way better than the other choices!"  So the devil hands him a cup of tea and a saucer, and sends him down into the cesspit.  He starts to sip, but then there's a loud voice:  "O.K.!  Break time's over!  Everybody back on your heads!"

Diamonds in the Rough, Mar. 2024.  3.4 x 5.3 x 1.8 cm..  (id#1617)

Here I used the same mixture of resin, sand, and colorant to make the excrement.  Some orange, some yellow, and a bit of black gave me a good brown.  (With the leftover, I made the "Malign Object" above.)

Spirale Cacca, Nov. 2024.  6.2 x 5.8 x 1.5 cm..  (id#1705)

By this time I had plenty of experience with this formula of resin, sand, and colorant.  It's easy enough to mix this up and pour it.  But for this I wanted to reproduce the classic spiral shape (I love the classics!), thinking also of a glyph of the Aztec language meaning "turd".  (Learn Aztec!  It's easy!  You already know ten words in Aztec!)  I saw a map with this glyph combined with that of water or lake (also easily recognizable, like many map symbols), and this place-name in spoken language was essentially "turd-in-the-water".  The problem for me was to shape this resin spiral as I wished without having it all melt together.  I had the material stuffed into the finger of a plastic glove, but the trick was to let it stiffen enough.  Although I wore latex gloves for this task, it was still an unholy mess.  Listen to your parents, and don't play with your cacca!
